Archdeacon to address the 2023 General Meeting
The Archdeacon of Barking will address the Annual Meeting on Saturday 9th September 2023. The Venerable Christopher Burke joined The Mission to Seafarers (International) Board in January 2011, but his relationship with its work extends back to the late 1980s when he was a chaplain’s assistant in Kobe, Japan. After completing studies in Coventry (where he sang in a choir alongside our own Vice Chair, Simon Filsell) he became ordained and served in the dioceses of York, London and Sheffield – in the latter as Vice Dean of the Cathedral. For more than a decade, Chris has been the Board’s Vice Chair while also serving as Archdeacon of Barking. We are delighted that he is travelling up from Essex to join us.
The meeting will be held in St Catharine’s Episcopal Church, Cadzow Crescent, Bo’ness EH51 9AY. There will be tea / coffee from 10.00am with the meeting getting underway at 10.30am. This will be followed by our service in church and then a light lunch. We are delighted that The Right Reverend Ian Paton, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane – who is also one of our Trustees – will be the Celebrant at the Eucharist Service.
It would be good to welcome as many as would like to come along, as we reflect on the past year during which we have been very busy with the provision of support to seafarers. Please join us as we review the activities of The Mission to Seafarers Scotland over the past year and share with you our plans for the future.
It would be a great help if you could contact us by email (chaplain@mtss.scot) if you can come so that we have an idea of the numbers for our caterer.
