Volunteering with MtSS
Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Mission to Seafarers, without your help the organisation could not help the 1.5 million seafarers across the globe. Volunteering with the Mission has great personal benefits too.
Make a difference: Volunteering can have a real positive effect on seafarers, being there for them as a friend in ports is of immeasurable value to them when they spend so long away from home.
Meet people and become part of a community: Volunteering can help you meet different kinds of like-minded people and make new friends.

SHIP VISITING
This is part of our core work. Our Chaplain visits crews almost every day, but needs support not only at Grangemouth Docks and the cruise ship sites, but at ports around Scotland – wherever a crew needs help.
Full training and and all protective clothing is provided and we support you at all times, even when fully trained.

GRANGEMOUTH CENTRE
Our Seafarers Centre in Grangemouth Docks is our main hub. It is open 24hrs a day but we do not have people to be there all the time. Could you spare a few hours a week or month to work with our partners, Stella Maris, to keep it clean and tidy and monitor stocks of supplies?
It’s a ‘home from home’ for crew members who have been on the seas for months.

KNITTERS
We have an ‘army’ of knitters across Scotland! They send us woolly hats which we gift to seafarers – which they universally love to have. To our Chaplain and ship visitors it’s a vital ‘key’ to opening conversations. To our seafarers it’s a gift from a Scottish knitter to them, personally.
It can mean more to them than we will ever know.

SPEAKERS & TRUSTEES
We have a busy schedule of Sea Sunday talks in churches around Scotland. Could you spare 2 or 3 Sundays in the year to deliver a short 5-minute talk during a church service? The bookings and all the materials are provide by us, and we don’t need you to be an expert on seafaring! It spreads the word of our work and is also a fundraising route.
If you think you could contribute to our Board of ‘worker’ Trustees, please get in touch. We formally govern the charity, but we aim to use every skill donated.
